"Trapped" is a stage play written and directed by Bahamian Playwright Adrian Wildgoose. The story is a dynamic twist of plots about Bahamian life in a small community in Nassau, Bahamas. The main character Deno, faces a hard time in his life where everything seems to all go wrong at one time and he sees no way out.
Growing up was never easy and it’s like we have to try to win with the cards we are dealt. No matter what cards we get! Trapped explores the interplay of life struggles, important relationships,... and the border life between doing what you have to do and what you need to do. Set during this present 21st century in The Bahamas, the stage play “Trapped” focuses on the issues that are a result of the decisions we make in life that we never regret but hate paying for. The two act “dramedy” immediately tells the story of young Deno Turnquest who grew up without a father with a mother Ava that lives with serious health issues but also in denial about her reality.
The action alternates between a scenes revealing Deno’s strained relationship with himself due to his inability to earn an honest living and his friends and family that constantly tempt him to stray from what he feels is the best thing for him to do. The Haitian/Bahamian characters of Shante’ and Zoe add a dynamic twist to the plot after Shante’ is hired to watch over Ava against her will. The facts of the play are derived from real people who volunteered their lives and secrets in the form of the characters in the play. The characters are real people, the story is fictional but the clash is powerful, funny and inspiring.
The play will take place at the National Performing Arts Center on Shirley Street, Nassau, Bahamas from September 13 – 15, 2013. Tickets will go on sale Monday August 18, 2013 ($20.adv. $25 door.) Visit the Facebook page for more information.
